Motorised Watersports (jet ski, seabob, flyboard, parasail, wakeboard)

Every Maldives resort splits its water sports offering into two tiers: paddle and wind-powered craft that are usually complimentary, and the motorised list that's booked and paid for separately, typically by the session rather than folded into the room rate. Jet ski and wakeboarding anchor nearly every resort's roster; parasailing, water-skiing, kneeboarding and fun-tube or banana-boat rides fill it out, with flyboarding, hoverboarding and the electric seabob or e-foil turning up at resorts that have built out a fuller programme.

Cheval Blanc Randheli runs one of the widest lists in the country — flyboard, hoverboard, jet surf, kite surf, wakeboard, water ski, jet ski, banana boat, tubing and an underwater scooter, all through its own watersports centre. Ayada Maldives's Water Sports Centre pairs an amphibious jet car and e-foil with parasailing, kneeboarding and water skiing, and Hard Rock Hotel Maldives leans into height and speed with a JetCar, an X-JetBlade and an X-JetPack that lift riders up to 15 metres above the lagoon, alongside a separate hydrofoil sports line-up.

Sessions run from the resort's own jetty or watersports centre, with an instructor alongside for a first attempt and independent rental once a guest is comfortable. It suits an active hour between dives, spa treatments or a day at the beach club rather than a booked-ahead excursion — the exact list, and whether any of it is complimentary rather than chargeable, is worth confirming with your resort, since it varies from one property to the next.

Good to know

Priced separately

Almost every resort books and charges for motorised watersports by the session — Constance Halaveli, Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa and OZEN Reserve Bolifushi all note it as payable or at additional fee, unlike the kayaks and paddleboards most resorts include at no charge.

Instruction runs alongside rental

Komandoo's MSTS Watersports and Hurawalhi Island Resort's watersports programme both pair rental with instruction for jet ski, wakeboarding and water skiing, and Ananea Madivaru Maldives runs private lessons graded by skill level.

Before you book

What motorised watersports can I try at a Maldives resort?

Jet ski and wakeboarding are on almost every resort's list, with parasailing, water-skiing, kneeboarding and banana-boat or fun-tube rides filling it out. A smaller group of resorts — Cheval Blanc Randheli and Ayada Maldives among them — add flyboarding, hoverboarding, an amphibious jet car, e-foil or an underwater scooter to a longer roster.

Is motorised watersports free at Maldives resorts, or does it cost extra?

It's almost always booked and paid for separately, unlike the kayaks, paddleboards and sometimes a Hobie-cat that most resorts include at no charge. Constance Halaveli, Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa and OZEN Reserve Bolifushi all note their motorised watersports as payable or at additional fee — a fair assumption to carry into any resort's watersports centre unless told otherwise.

Which Maldives resorts have the widest range of motorised watersports?

Cheval Blanc Randheli's list runs to flyboard, hoverboard, jet surf, kite surf, wakeboard, water ski, jet ski, banana boat, tubing and an underwater scooter. Ayada Maldives's Water Sports Centre covers parasailing, jet ski, an amphibious jet car, e-foil, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, water skiing and banana boat, and Hard Rock Hotel Maldives and Kudadoo Maldives Private Island each add a hydrofoil sport or underwater scooter that few other resorts carry.

Do I need experience to jet ski or wakeboard, or can beginners try it?

Most resort watersports centres run both — instruction for a first attempt and independent rental once you're comfortable. Komandoo Maldives's MSTS Watersports lists rental and instruction side by side for jet ski, wakeboarding and flyboarding, Hurawalhi Island Resort's watersports programme runs the same basis for jet ski, water skiing and wakeboarding, and Ananea Madivaru Maldives runs private lessons graded by skill level within its own watersports programme.
