Diamonds Thudufushi Beach & Water Villas sits on a private island in South Ari Atoll, 25-30 minutes by seaplane from Male. Its 69 rooms span seven categories from Beach Front Villas to Two Bedroom Pool Water Villas, run on an all-inclusive vocation with four dining venues and two bars. A 300-frame coral garden, a resident marine lab run with the University of Milano-Bicocca, and an iDive PADI Gold Palm dive centre anchor its reef-first character.

Divers and snorkellers

A sheltered, easily accessible house reef, a PADI Gold Palm dive centre with complimentary Nitrox, and a 300-frame coral garden give underwater time real structure here, not just a backdrop.

Couples wanting a fuss-free stay

The all-inclusive vocation package covers meals, house drinks and basic watersports outright, and Kakuni's moonlit seafood dinners make an easy, no-planning-required occasion night.

Families with young children

Honestly, this isn't a kids'-club resort — provision is limited to cradles and highchairs on request, and under-8s need a signed disclaimer for Water Villas. Families wanting a full children's programme are better matched elsewhere; IMJ can suggest where.

Before you book

How do we get to Diamonds Thudufushi, and how long does it take?

By seaplane from Velana International Airport, operated by Trans Maldivian Airways — the flight takes 25 to 30 minutes. Seaplanes fly daylight hours only (roughly 07:00 to 16:00 Male time), and the exact timing is set by the operator and confirmed on arrival or the night before departure. A speedboat transfer is also offered; its duration isn't published on the resort's site, so IMJ confirms the exact time at booking.

What does the all-inclusive package actually cover?

Diamonds Thudufushi runs on what it calls an 'all inclusive vocation' rather than separate BB/HB/FB tiers: a welcome cocktail, breakfast, lunch and dinner, house wine, beer, cocktails, aperitifs, soft drinks, coffee, tea and mineral water, a daily-replenished minibar, Wi-Fi at reception and in Water Villas, and canoes, windsurfing and snorkelling gear with a guided reef tour. Aqua Over Water Restaurant is included for Water Villa guests and chargeable by reservation for beach-category guests; Farivalhu and Kakuni are booked and paid for separately. IMJ itemises the exact inclusions before you travel.

Is this a resort for families, or is any of it adults-only?

Neither, strictly — Diamonds Thudufushi isn't flagged as family-only or adults-only. There's no dedicated kids' club; children's provision is limited to cradles and highchairs on request. Water Villas carry a specific safety rule: children 8 and under may only stay in them with a signed parental or guardian disclaimer. Families wanting a full kids' programme are usually better matched to a resort built around one — IMJ can suggest alternatives.

How good is the house reef, and what's the marine programme like?

The house reef sits in the shelter of the atoll's outer edge, giving an easily accessible, colourful reef for snorkellers, plus resident green turtle activity. The resort's Coral Conservation Project, running since 2015, has 300-plus guest-adopted coral frames forming a house-reef 'coral garden,' and since 2024 a 'BIG BUILD' partnership with Mars Sustainable Solutions has installed 1,000-plus reef stars in a single build. A resident marine biologist and a Marine Lab run with the University of Milano-Bicocca's MaRHE Center add researcher talks and citizen-science sessions guests can join.

What's the diving set-up, and do we need to be certified already?

iDive Diving Centre is a PADI Gold Palm Resort operation running English, Italian and German-language instruction, with complimentary Nitrox, 40 sets of Scubapro gear, and its own compressor and dive computers on site. Courses run from complete beginner through to advanced, so first-time divers and certified regulars are both catered for.

Is there a special dining programme, and how many bars does the resort have?

From December to April, Dining with the Stars brings a rotating residency of Michelin-starred JRE (Jeunes Restaurateurs) chefs from Europe for roughly two-week gala-dinner runs. On bars: the live site lists two — Veli Beach Bar and the overwater Aqua Over Water Bar — though the resort's own 2024 factsheet PDF states three, including 'an over water lounge.' We haven't been able to resolve the discrepancy from published sources and flag it rather than guess; IMJ can confirm the current count directly with the resort before you book.
