Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa

One of the Maldives' largest resort islands, built around total privacy — 110 villas across three collections, a double house reef close to shore, and an activity roster wide enough to cover golf, padel and a PADI 5-star dive centre.

Hideaway sits on Dhonakulhi Island in Haa Alifu Atoll, a 75-minute seaplane journey from Malé, on one of the Maldives' largest resort islands — 1.4 km long, with beaches running over a kilometre on each side and only a tenth of it built on. 110 villas span Beach, Water and Signature collections, up to the 1,100-sqm Sultan Beach Residence with its own water slide. Five restaurants, a PADI 5-star dive centre and an outstanding house reef round out the stay.

Recommended For

Honeymooners and couples

World Travel Awards' 'Leading Honeymoon Resort' and TTM Awards' 2025 honeymoon title back the reputation up — private dining runs from floating-villa breakfasts to candlelit beach dinners, and the Signature Collection adds welcome champagne and a dedicated butler for the occasion.

Families

Haute Grandeur's 'Best Family Resort (Indian Ocean)' award is earned — Tender Hearts Kids Club covers ages 3-12, the floating aqua park and Chef's Gardens keep children occupied, and the Two-Bedroom Residences plus the Sultan Beach Residence's own water slide are built around a family stay rather than tolerating one.

Divers and active travellers

Meridis Dive & Relax's PADI 5-star Gold status opens 30-plus dive sites by dhoni, and the Hideaway Golf Center, floodlit tennis and padel courts, and a full watersports roster from wakeboarding to kite surfing give an active stay plenty to fill.

Before you book

How do I get to Hideaway, and how long does it take?

Most guests arrive by seaplane — about 75 minutes from Velana International Airport via the Noovilu Seaplane Terminal, where the resort's private Lily Hotels Lounge offers refreshments and Wi-Fi before departure. A domestic-flight route also exists: fly to Hanimaadhoo or Kulhudhuffushi (about 55 minutes), then a 20-30 minute speedboat to the resort. Either way, Hideaway meets guests at counter C15 in Velana International Airport and arranges a private limo transfer to the seaplane terminal.

What meal plans are available, and what does the all-inclusive option include?

Bed & Breakfast, Half-Board, Full-Board, and the White Platinum Plan, which is fully all-inclusive: 70 wine and champagne labels, unlimited alcoholic beverages, a daily-replenished mini bar, guided house reef snorkelling, and the sunset dolphin safari. Signature Collection guests get parallel Signature versions of each plan, plus a Signature Platinum Plan with its own cocktail menu. Half-Board, Full-Board and Platinum guests can dine around at Matheefaru, Meeru Bar & Grill, Sunset Pool Café, Samsara (50% food discount) and Oasis (menu pricing).

Is Hideaway suited to families, or is it adults-oriented?

Both are genuinely built for. Hideaway holds Haute Grandeur's 'Best Family Resort (Indian Ocean)' award alongside World Travel Awards' 'Leading Honeymoon Resort in the Maldives.' Tender Hearts Kids Club runs supervised activities for ages 3-12, and the Two-Bedroom Beach and Ocean Residences suit families directly. Nothing in the resort's own materials suggests an adults-only policy anywhere on the island.

How good is the house reef?

The resort's own factsheet calls it an 'outstanding double coral reef,' close enough to shore for a guided snorkel straight from the beach, with turtles, stingrays and reef sharks regularly seen. Meridis Dive & Relax, a PADI 5-star Gold Dive Resort, runs trips to 30-plus dive sites within a 60-minute dhoni ride, including the well-known 'Heaven and Hell' site about 40 minutes out.

What comes standard with every villa?

Every villa includes 24-hour butler service, air conditioning, a Nespresso machine and kettle, a Smart TV with 40-plus satellite channels, a jacuzzi bathtub and shower, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Signature Collection villas add a dedicated round-the-clock butler, in-villa check-in, welcome champagne, packing and unpacking, a daily fruit basket, and a private buggy — the Sultan Beach Residence alone adds a private BBQ privilege.

How big is the island, and does that mean a lot of walking?

Dhonakulhi Island runs about 1.4 km long and 500 m wide — one of the larger resort islands in the Maldives — with beaches stretching over a kilometre on each side. Only around 10% of it is built on. Complimentary bicycles cover the distance between villas, restaurants and the spa, and Signature Collection guests also get a private buggy.
