Maldives Pricing
— honestly explained
What the Maldives actually costs, what drives the price, and how IMJ ensures every pound you spend is working as hard as it can.
The Maldives is expensive. But not all of it costs the same — and not all of the expense buys equal value.
IMJ's pricing guide exists because transparency is the foundation of trust. Most travel agencies obscure costs in packages and present one option — the most expensive one they earn the most commission on. IMJ does the opposite: we explain how pricing works, show you the range, and recommend the most appropriate option for your specific brief.
The right Maldives trip for you may be at USD 5,000 or USD 50,000. IMJ's job is to ensure that wherever you land on that spectrum, the value equation is exceptional.
Resort Tiers
IMJ organises the Maldives into four broad pricing tiers. These are nightly villa rates — not per person, not all-inclusive.
Tier 1

USD 400–800 / night per villa
AVANI Fares
OBLU Select Lobigili
Radisson Blu Maldives
Solid overwater or beach villa experience with good service and reef access. Typically speedboat transfer from Malé (20–45 min). Best for first-time visitors or those who prefer value over ultra-premium.
Transfer
Speedboat (included or low cost)

First-time Maldives, short stays, families on a clear budget
Tier 2

USD 800–2,000 / night per villa
Anantara Kihavah
Six Senses Laamu
LUX* South Ari Atoll
W Maldives
Patina Maldives
Excellent villa quality, strong F&B programmes, and genuine resort character. Mix of speedboat and seaplane transfers depending on atoll. The broadest tier — many of IMJ's most-booked resorts sit here.
Transfer
Speedboat or seaplane (USD 300–600 p/p return)

Ithaafushi Private Island
Kudadoo Maldives

Transfer
Chartered seaplane or yacht
Best For
Large family groups, corporate retreats, weddings, multi-generational celebrations
What Drives the Cost
Six variables that most significantly affect the total cost of a Maldives trip — and how IMJ navigates each one for you.
Resort tier
The single biggest cost variable. Accessible luxury and ultra-luxury can differ by a factor of 10 per night for broadly similar overwater experiences. IMJ helps you understand exactly what the additional cost buys — and whether it matters for your specific travel brief.
Villa category
Within the same resort, villas can range from USD 800 to USD 15,000 per night. The difference is usually size, pool configuration, reef adjacency, privacy, and butler service. IMJ recommends the best-value category for your group rather than defaulting to the most expensive.
Transfer type
Seaplane transfers to outer atolls typically cost USD 400–900 per person return and must be taken in daylight. Speedboat transfers (USD 80–200 p/p return) are available for North Malé Atoll resorts and allow night arrivals — a significant logistical advantage for guests with late international flights.
Season
Peak season (November–April) carries a 20–40% premium over low season (May–October). The Maldives is genuinely beautiful in both — IMJ can advise on expected weather patterns for specific travel windows and identify the best-value periods for your dates.
Meal plan
Most villa rates are room-only. Half-board (breakfast + dinner) adds USD 150–400 per person per night. Full-board or all-inclusive varies by resort. IMJ models meal plan costs against the likely dining spend for your group — the maths sometimes favours room-only with à la carte dining.
Experiences and activities
Spa treatments, diving, guided excursions, and private dining are typically additional. IMJ pre-arranges these before arrival and — for some resorts — has access to complimentary or discounted activity programmes not available on direct booking.
What IMJ costs — and what it saves you
IMJ earns from resort commissions on confirmed bookings. For straightforward villa bookings, there is no separate planning fee — you pay exactly what the resort would charge directly.
What you gain is a consultant who knows which villa category at each resort represents the best value, which restaurants to pre-book before arrival, which experiences are worth the premium and which aren't, and how to sequence your stay so nothing is missed or wasted.
For complex bookings — private island buyouts, multi-resort itineraries, groups of 10+ — IMJ will discuss an advisory fee upfront, before any work begins.
Do I pay more through IMJ than direct?
No. IMJ earns from resort commissions. The rate you pay is the same as or better than the direct rack rate — IMJ often has access to exclusive rates and complimentary upgrades not available to the public.
Can IMJ work within a fixed budget?
Yes. Tell IMJ your total trip budget at the start of the conversation and IMJ will build a recommendation that maximises the experience within that ceiling.
When is the best time to book for value?
3–6 months ahead for standard stays; 6–12 months for peak season, private islands, or specific villa categories at ultra-luxury resorts. Last-minute Maldives deals exist but rarely at the most in-demand properties.
Are there hidden costs IMJ should flag?
The most common surprises are: seaplane transfer costs (add USD 400–900 per person), service charges and resort levies (typically 20–30% on top of rack rates), and experience costs at activity-heavy resorts. IMJ flags all of these before any commitment is made.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a Maldives holiday cost?
A Maldives holiday for two can range from approximately USD 3,000 for a 4-night accessible resort stay to USD 80,000+ for a 10-night private island. The primary cost drivers are resort tier, villa category, transfer type, and the length of stay. IMJ Travels provides transparent pricing guidance before any commitment.
What is the cheapest time to visit the Maldives?
The Maldives low season (May–July) offers 20–40% lower resort rates than peak season. The weather remains warm but rainfall is more likely. IMJ can identify the best value windows for specific resorts and travel types.
Do I need a seaplane to reach a Maldives resort?
Not all resorts require a seaplane. Many resorts in North Malé Atoll and Kaafu Atoll are accessible by speedboat (20–45 minutes from Malé), which is significantly cheaper and allows night arrivals. Seaplane transfers typically cost USD 400–900 per person return and operate only in daylight.
Does IMJ charge a planning fee?
IMJ earns from resort commissions — there is no separate planning or consultation fee for straightforward bookings. For complex itineraries (private island buyouts, multi-resort trips, group travel), IMJ will be transparent about any advisory fee before work begins.
What is included in a Maldives resort rate?
Most Maldives resort rates are room-only or half-board. Full-board and all-inclusive plans are available at a premium. Seaplane or speedboat transfers are almost always charged separately. Activities, spa treatments, and excursions are typically additional. IMJ explains the included/excluded breakdown for every resort before booking.
