Bandos is a large, established North Malé Atoll resort — 220 villas across eight categories, four restaurants, three bars, and Dive Bandos, the country's longest-operating dive centre with access to around 40 sites. The transfer is a short 10-15 minutes by speedboat, with no seaplane involved. Families get a dedicated kids' club and interconnecting rooms; the single Beach Pool Villa and six overwater Sunset Water Villas are the only categories with a private plunge pool.

Before you book

How do we get to Bandos, and how long does the transfer take?

Bandos sits about 8km from Malé and 7km from Velana International Airport, reached by a 10-15 minute speedboat transfer, with no seaplane or domestic flight involved.

What's included, and are meal plans available?

Bandos runs four restaurants — Gallery, Sea Breeze, Umi Yaki and the Grill — plus three bars, but the guest materials we've reviewed don't itemise specific board-plan packages. IMJ confirms the exact meal plan or à la carte arrangement for your villa category before booking.

Is Bandos suited to families, and is there a kids' club?

Yes. Kokko Club takes children aged 3-11 with dedicated childminders in a fenced play area, and a minimal charge applies for babysitting under-3s. Deluxe Beachfront Rooms also add interconnecting-unit options for families who want two rooms joined rather than separated.

How is the diving and snorkelling at Bandos?

Dive Bandos is the longest-established dive centre in the Maldives, a PADI International Resort Association member with access to roughly 40 dive sites in the region and a multilingual dive team. The resort also runs organised snorkelling trips, a glass-bottom boat and whale shark expeditions; house-reef quality isn't described in the resort's own materials, so ask us for current conditions before booking a reef-focused stay.

Which villa category should we book?

It depends on the party. Couples wanting a private pool have exactly two options — the single Beach Pool Villa or one of six overwater Sunset Water Villas with Pool. Families tend toward the Deluxe Beachfront Room's interconnecting units or the larger, duplex Premium Beach Villa. The Standard Beachfront Room and Garden Villa are the simplest, most traditional categories.

Is there anything unusual about the resort's facilities?

Two things stand out. Bandos runs a Convention Centre with four halls for conferences alongside its leisure offering, and it has an on-site Decompression Chamber with a General Practitioner and nurse on 24-hour call — useful context for divers, and for anyone who wants medical backup close to Malé.
