JW Marriott Maldives Kaafu Atoll Island Resort

JW Marriott Maldives Kaafu Atoll is a family-built private-island resort set in Kaafu Atoll's largest lagoon — one of the shortest transfers from Malé in the Maldives, and paired with an MIT-engineered reef-restoration project few resorts this new can claim.

Recommended For

Families

Family by JW's kids' treehouse and Splash Park sit right beside a Family Beach Pool Villa's bunk-bed enclave and the multi-bedroom Ocean Residence — one of the more deliberately family-built resorts to open in the Maldives recently.

Couples and honeymooners

Overwater villas that step straight onto the reef, a private-pool water slide in the signature Ocean Residence, and 'Celebrate Love by the Ocean' candlelit dinners custom-arranged for a proposal or anniversary.

First-time visitors and short-stay travellers

One of the shortest transfers in the Maldives — 15 minutes by speedboat, no seaplane wait — makes this an easy choice for a first Maldives trip; divers chasing a big manta or shark story may find better-documented water at a resort further into the atolls.

Before you book

How do we get to JW Marriott Maldives Kaafu Atoll, and how long does the transfer take?

By speedboat — just 15 minutes direct from Velana International Airport, one of the shortest resort transfers in the Maldives. The sheet doesn't state a seaplane option; the resort markets this short speedboat run as a differentiator rather than offering both modes.

Is there a meal plan, and what's included?

A Full Board rate package is bookable across select villa categories, running across the resort's Savor by JW dining concept — seven venues in all. The site doesn't itemise which of the seven venues are included on Full Board, so we confirm the exact inclusions with the resort before quoting a package.

Is this resort family-friendly, or better suited to couples?

Both. The Family by JW Kids Club (a treehouse with climbing walls and arts & crafts) sits beside a Splash Park water-play area, and the Family Beach Pool Villa, 2-Bedroom categories and Ocean Residence all give a family room to spread out — though the sheet doesn't state an age range for the kids' club, worth confirming at booking. For couples, overwater villas with direct reef access and the 'Celebrate Love by the Ocean' private dining programme (candlelit dinners, sunset proposals) cover the honeymoon end just as well.

What's the snorkelling and diving like?

Every villa on the island, overwater or beach, opens directly onto the house reef for spontaneous snorkelling — the resort calls this 'Into the Blue.' A dedicated watersports outlet on the beach also offers scuba diving and snorkelling; the sheet doesn't detail specific marine-life sightings for this reef, so we set expectations accordingly rather than promise manta or shark encounters some other Maldives resorts can.

What comes standard in every villa?

Complimentary Wi-Fi, a mini fridge, coffee/tea maker, individual climate control, Aromatherapy Associates bathroom amenities, a separate bathtub and shower, double vanities, and a robe and slippers, plus Safeeru — the resort's host and storyteller service, rooted in Sultanate-era Maldivian hospitality tradition rather than a conventional butler title. The Ocean Residence adds a private gym, a private spa treatment room, and a pool with a water slide into the lagoon.

What is the INVENA Project?

A collaboration with MIT's Self-Assembly Lab: a 30-metre underwater structure built to mitigate beach erosion and create new reef habitat. The site is intended to evolve into a coral nursery with guided guest snorkelling and swimming interaction — it's a genuinely new installation, so it's still developing rather than a mature reef feature today.
