Velaa Private Island is an ultra-private Noonu Atoll retreat of eleven villa categories — from one-bedroom Beach and Water Pool Villas to four-bedroom Residences among the largest in the Maldives — built around personalised butler service and unstructured time. Six dining venues, a four-pillar wellness programme, and a José María Olazábal-designed golf academy round out an island that can also be booked as a full exclusive buyout.

Recommended For

Honeymooners and VVIP couples

Velaa is built around personalised butler service and unstructured time rather than a packed activity sheet — the kind of privacy that suits a couple who don't want to see another guest all week, down to the option of taking the whole island.

Families

The four-bedroom Residences sleep ten around their own pool and grounds, and Lha Velaa Kids Club runs water play, an energy studio, cooking classes, and indoor climbing — real family infrastructure, not an add-on.

Golfers

The Velaa Golf Academy is a genuine outlier for the Maldives: a nine-hole José María Olazábal-designed Par-3 course, one-on-one PGA coaching, and TrackMan swing analysis most resorts simply don't offer.

Before you book

How long is the transfer to Velaa, and how does it work?

The scenic seaplane from Velana International Airport takes around 45 minutes, flown either on Velaa's own 9-seater charter or a 15-seater commercial seaplane, with a private airport-lounge butler service either side of the flight. Guests already chartering a private jet can land directly at Maafaru International Airport in Noonu Atoll, then complete the journey with a 7-minute seaplane hop or a 35-minute yacht ride.

Can we book the whole island for a private group?

Yes — Velaa can be booked as a full-island exclusive buyout, which is one of the clearer routes to total privacy in the Maldives. IMJ treats a buyout as its own conversation from the start, since it changes both the booking lead time and how the resort plans staffing around your group.

How many villa categories does Velaa have, and how do they differ?

Eleven categories across three collections: four one-bedroom Villas (Deluxe Beach Pool, Beach Pool, Sunset Deluxe Water Pool, and Sunrise Water Pool), two two-bedroom Houses (Ocean Pool House and Beach Pool House), and five four-plus-bedroom Residences. Four of the Residences — Nika, Kuredhi, Funa, and Nirolhu — share an identical 1,324-square-metre footprint and sleep ten; The Romantic Residence is smaller, boat-access only, and built for two.

Is Velaa a good fit for a family, or is it couples-only?

Velaa welcomes families — Lha Velaa Kids Club runs water and outdoor play, an energy studio, cooking classes, indoor climbing, and reading nooks, and the four-bedroom Residences give a family real separation and its own pool. It reads as an ultra-private couples' island first, but the infrastructure for a family group is genuinely there.

What dining options does Velaa have?

Six venues: Aragu for fine dining with piano music, Tavaru for teppanyaki beside the Maldives' largest private wine cellar, Faiy for a garden-set seasonal menu, Athiri as the all-day dining centre with chefs from fourteen nations, Cru for a sommelier-led champagne list overlooking the sea, and AVI & Beach Bar for a poolside sunset lounge plus a separate waterside bar.

Does Velaa have golf, and what else is there to do on the water?

The Velaa Golf Academy is a genuine standout for the Maldives: a nine-hole Par-3 course designed by José María Olazábal, one-on-one PGA coaching, and a TrackMan simulator for swing analysis. On the water, guests have diving, watersports including jet-ski and flyboarding, and a coral regeneration programme run with a resident marine biologist, where guests can adopt a coral line.
