How long is the transfer from the airport?
The transfer is a 30-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport, running 24 hours a day — there's no daylight cut-off to plan around, unlike a seaplane transfer. Veligandu Island sits in South Malé Atoll, about 21km south of the airport.
What are the dining options like?
Anantara Veli runs six restaurants — Cumin (South Asian), Origami (Japanese), Baan Huraa (Thai, on stilts over the lagoon), Fushi Café (all-day international buffets), Sea.Fire.Salt. (grilled steaks and seafood) and Aqua (Italian, poolside) — plus Dhoni Bar for all-day drinks and sunset cocktails. Dining by Design adds private beach banquets and candlelit dinners outside the regular restaurant schedule, and the resort's own Wine Guru runs tastings and private wine dinners from its cellar.
Is Anantara Veli suitable for children?
No — Anantara Veli is adults-only. Its sister resort, Anantara Dhigu, sits on the neighbouring island under the same management and shares its restaurant brands, and is where IMJ sends families wanting the same lagoon and service standard with a kids' club.
How good is the house reef and diving here?
The Over Water Villas sit directly above a natural coral bed, and the resort's dive centre, Aquafanatics, runs snorkelling and diving across the lagoon — manta snorkelling from August to December, whale shark snorkelling year-round, and a dedicated nurse shark snorkelling excursion. The resort also runs a coral adoption programme, HARP, for guests who want to contribute to reef protection during their stay.
What does the wellness programme include?
Every villa at Anantara Veli can be converted into a wellness villa for the stay — aroma, light and music therapy, an earthing mat, a healthy minibar, and a programme built around a consultation with the resort's Wellness Guru, daily yoga or personal training, and a healthy cooking class. Balance Wellness by Anantara, the resort's spa, adds Ayurvedic treatments, a Shirodhara bed, a steam room and sauna, and a relaxation garden with hot and cold plunge pools.
When's the best time to visit, and is there a surf season?
The climate stays a warm 23–32°C year-round, with the driest, calmest weather from November to April and intermittent rain from May to October. Surfing lessons run year-round, with the surf season itself falling between April and October.
