Destination private dining is the umbrella most Maldives resorts use for a meal moved off the restaurant floor — a table set up wherever the guest picks. Resorts brand it differently (Destination Dining, Dining by Design, Carte Blanche, Intimate Dining), but the shape holds: a chef, usually a dedicated butler, and a location chosen on the day — a sandbank, a stretch of beach, a jetty, sometimes a yacht deck. It's distinct from a resort's fixed specialty venue, like an underwater room; this is bespoke and portable, not built.
The specifics differ resort to resort. Gili Lankanfushi stages its Destination Dining 'under a blanket of a million stars' wherever the guest chooses. Cheval Blanc Randheli's Carte Blanche lets chefs orchestrate a dinner or beach picnic anywhere on the island, on request. Naladhu Private Island's Intimate Dining pairs the meal with a dedicated private chef, butler and sommelier for an occasion under palms or on a deserted beach. Anantara Kihavah's Dine by Design sends a personal chef and butler to an isolated sandbank or a private yacht deck.
It's most often booked around an anniversary, a proposal or a birthday — several resorts frame it that way — but it isn't reserved for honeymooners; a family celebration works just as well. Because it draws on the same small kitchen and beach team every guest shares, and because it's outdoors and weather-dependent, it's worth naming the occasion and preferred night early rather than assuming a slot opens up on short notice.
