A resort's own events team scouts the beach, sandbank or pavilion, a celebrant leads a short service, and for the great majority of foreign, non-Muslim couples nothing filed there carries legal weight — Hurawalhi and Diamonds Athuruga are both explicit that their ceremonies are symbolic rather than legally binding. Couples who want the marriage itself legally recognised typically register at home first and treat the island occasion as the celebration, not the paperwork.
Where it happens is where resorts differentiate. Some have built a permanent stage for it: Gili Lankanfushi's Lagoon Champa is a dedicated wedding pavilion, and Kuredu marks its own Renewal of Wedding Vows Pavilion, plus a sandbank and beach cabanas, on the resort map. Others repurpose a signature venue instead — Conrad Maldives Rangali Island lists Ithaa, the world's first undersea restaurant, on its ceremony roster alongside Sunset Tip Beach, while Hurawalhi offers three separate settings for a symbolic ceremony: its own 5.8 Undersea Restaurant, the over-water Champagne Pavilion, and the petal-strewn sandbank it calls Dream Island.

Packages typically bundle the ceremony with something after it: a set dinner, a cake-cutting, occasionally a cultural touch like the Bodu Beru drumming built into Atmosphere Kanifushi's chief-blessed sunset ceremony.

Hurawalhi describes its own ceremonies as symbolic, not legally binding, and Diamonds Athuruga's Wedding Ceremony Package is explicitly a non-legally-binding local-style altar ceremony.
