A resident marine biologist is now a fixture at a meaningful share of Maldives resorts — not a marketing title, but a staff role built around guided snorkels, coral and turtle monitoring, and regular talks that turn a house-reef swim into something explained rather than just seen. The format is fairly consistent from island to island: a scheduled reef session, a weekly talk or 'biology evening,' and someone on hand to answer what you actually saw out there.
How deep the programme goes varies by resort. Gili Lankanfushi built a facility around it — the Gili Veshi Marine Biology Shack is the island's hub for conservation and marine experiences — and Six Senses Laamu's SHELL pairs an exhibition space and marine lab with a biologist who leads the resort's complimentary guided house-reef snorkel. What does a resident marine biologist actually do at a Maldives resort?

Can children join a marine-biologist programme?
At some resorts, yes, with a version built for younger guests.
