Padel & Tennis

Padel has moved fast through the Maldives, arriving as a companion to the tennis courts most larger resorts already had rather than replacing them. It's the same sport you'd find at a padel club anywhere — a smaller, walled court, doubles by default, a solid paddle instead of a strung racket — and it suits the climate: a set runs shorter and cooler than tennis, which matters on an island where courts sit exposed to the midday sun. Court time is usually booked through the recreation or watersports desk, often complimentary, with a paid pro session or clinic layered on top for guests who want coaching rather than a casual knock-about.

The build-out varies by resort. Cheval Blanc Randheli pairs two padel-tennis courts with two tennis courts — one grass, one hardcourt, built to U.S. Open and Paris Masters standards — and a certified coach. Meyyafushi took the format somewhere no one else has: an overwater padel court, marketed as the world's first fixed court of its kind, with one complimentary session a day on its Premium All-Inclusive plan. At Finolhu, padel runs as coached clinics under the LUX Tennis programme, alongside a tennis court with a resident coach that has occasionally hosted retreats with touring pros in the past.

It suits a group holiday where not everyone wants the beach or the water every afternoon — a doubles match is sociable, needs little prior experience, and fills an hour without committing a whole day the way a boat excursion does.

Good to know

Complimentary at most resorts, a paid add-on at a few

Atmosphere Kanifushi's padel court is chargeable, while most others on the roster — Baglioni's and Constance Halaveli's tennis courts among them — provide complimentary court time and equipment.

Coaching is usually a separate booking from court time

Constance Halaveli's tennis court and equipment are free to use, but private or group lessons with its pro coach are a payable add-on — the same split as most resorts that offer coaching.

Included play can be capped at an hour a day

Vilamendhoo's All-Inclusive Dine Around package includes padel and tennis use but caps the complimentary portion at one hour a day — worth checking before assuming a meal plan means unlimited court time.

Before you book

Is padel or tennis more common at Maldives resorts?

Tennis courts have been standard at larger resorts for longer, but padel has caught up fast — many properties that already had a tennis court have added a padel court alongside it in the last few years. Both are common enough now that it's worth asking which one (or both) a specific resort has rather than assuming.

Which Maldives resorts have the best padel or tennis setups?

Cheval Blanc Randheli has one of the more serious builds — two tennis courts made to U.S. Open and Paris Masters standards plus two padel courts, with a certified coach on-site. Meyyafushi has the only overwater padel court we know of in the Maldives, marketed as the first fixed court of its kind. Finolhu runs padel through a coached LUX Tennis programme and pairs its tennis court with a resident coach — both staffed rather than just open courts. See the full roster below for what's confirmed at each resort.

Do I need to bring my own paddle or racket?

No — resorts that offer padel or tennis supply the paddles, rackets and balls as part of the facility, whether it's complimentary or a paid booking. Bring your own grip preference or shoes if you're particular about it, but equipment itself isn't something you need to pack.

How do I book a court or a coaching session?

Court time is usually booked directly with the resort's recreation or watersports desk once you've arrived, since availability depends on the day's schedule. If a resident coach or clinic is part of what you're after, tell us during your consultation and we'll factor it into which resort we recommend — the coaching programmes differ enough between properties that it's worth matching to the right one in advance.
