An art studio or craft workshop in the Maldives is rarely a folding table with paper and crayons — a handful of resorts run a proper dedicated space, often with a resident or visiting artist on hand, and treat it as a standalone activity worth a slot on the excursions desk rather than a rainy-day filler. What you actually make varies a lot: pottery and painting are the most common thread, but a few resorts go further, and traditional Maldivian craft turns up at others in place of a Western-style studio.
Soneva Fushi's Art and Glass Studio is the most distinctive version of it — billed as the only glassblowing studio in the Maldives, working recycled glass into new pieces. Amilla runs a Clay Art Studio for pottery classes, and Kandima's lakeside Kula Art Studio pairs painting and crafts with a resident Maldivian artist. Not every version is a modern studio, either. The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo teaches traditional Liyelaa Jehun lacquer-art, and Alila Kothaifaru's 'Coconut Reverence' is a guided craft exploration of the coconut palm's traditional uses, folded into its beach welcome rather than a separate studio session.
