Wine, Cigar & Whiskey Lounge
A wine, cigar and whisky lounge in the Maldives is usually a distinct room set apart from the main bar — a deeper spirits list, a humidor or cigar menu, often leather furniture and lower lighting, built for guests who want to linger after dinner. It's rarely the loudest venue on a resort, and a few run on limited hours or by request. Conrad Maldives Rangali's Rangali Bar is the fullest expression: premium Cuban cigars alongside a tequila, mezcal, cognac and whisky collection. Kuda Villingili's leather-clad Cigar Lounge leans further into pairing, running rum tastings and a whisky-and-chocolate session.
The Cuban-bar theme recurs elsewhere. Niva Kuramathi's Havana Club Wine & Cigar Bar pairs cigars with rum-spiked mojitos, while JOALI Maldives folds a dedicated Whiskey and Cigar Lounge into its Mura Bar rather than giving it a standalone room. JW Marriott Maldives' clubhouse — cigar room, shisha room and billiards table, guests 18 and over — and Niva Kurumba's Fez, an Arabic-décor hookah lounge with curated cocktails, widen the format toward shisha and games rather than whisky alone, so it's worth asking what a resort actually means by "cigar lounge" before booking.
Not every resort runs a dedicated room. Le Méridien Maldives' La Vie is an adults-only wine bar rather than a cigar setting, and The Nautilus Maldives folds the idea into its rotating "Nautilus After Dark" nights and pop-up wine tastings instead of a fixed venue — worth knowing if a named cigar lounge is specifically what you're after.
Good to know
Fixed hours at some, by request at others
Conrad Maldives Rangali's Rangali Bar keeps daily hours, 10am to midnight, while Kuda Villingili's Cigar Lounge runs its tastings by request rather than a set opening schedule.
A few carry an age restriction, most don't
JW Marriott Maldives' clubhouse — cigar room, shisha room and billiards table — is restricted to guests 18 and over, and Le Méridien Maldives' La Vie is an adults-only wine bar; most other lounges on the roster carry no such policy.
Tasting sessions need advance notice
Kuda Villingili's rum tasting and whisky-and-chocolate pairing sessions run on request rather than a nightly sitting — treat any tasting menu the same way and ask ahead rather than walking in.

Before you book
Which Maldives resorts have a real wine, cigar or whisky lounge?
Around eight of the resorts we work with have some form of dedicated evening lounge built around this idea, though the format isn't identical everywhere. Conrad Maldives Rangali's Rangali Bar and Kuda Villingili's Cigar Lounge are the most developed cigar-and-spirits rooms, pairing premium cigars with deep spirits collections and hosted tasting sessions; Niva Kuramathi's Havana Club and JOALI Maldives' Mura Bar lounge lean into a similar cigar-and-spirits format, while a few others lean toward wine or shisha instead. See the roster below for what's confirmed at each resort.
Is a cigar lounge the same as a shisha lounge?
Not always — the format covers both in the Maldives, and it's worth checking which a resort actually runs. Niva Kurumba's Fez centres on shisha (hookah) with curated cocktails, and JW Marriott Maldives' clubhouse pairs a shisha room with its own cigar room and billiards table — both a different evening to a whisky-and-cigar pairing room like Kuda Villingili's. Tell us what you're picturing and we'll match it to the right venue.
Do I need to book ahead for a cigar lounge experience?
It depends on the resort. Kuda Villingili's Cigar Lounge runs its rum and whisky-and-chocolate pairing sessions on request rather than fixed nightly hours, and The Nautilus Maldives folds its version into a rotating after-dark programme rather than a fixed room — "Nautilus After Dark" nights and pop-up bars rather than open walk-in hours. We'll confirm the actual booking process for your resort before you travel.
Are wine and cigar lounges adults-only?
Some are, some aren't. Le Méridien Maldives' La Vie is an adults-only wine bar, and JW Marriott Maldives' clubhouse — cigar room, shisha room and billiards table — is restricted to guests 18 and over; most other cigar lounges on our roster don't carry an age restriction. Check the specific resort's policy if you're travelling with children.
