Golf is one of the rarest specialist facilities in the Maldives, since a full course needs land, freshwater and drainage that most low-lying reef islands can't spare. Of the resorts we work with, only a handful offer it at all, and what's actually on the ground splits into two kinds: a short outdoor course or pitch-and-putt at a few properties, and an indoor simulator at several more, for guests who want a swing fix without needing real turf.
Velaa Private Island has the most serious build of the group: the Velaa Golf Academy is a 9-hole Par-3 course designed by José María Olazábal, with one-on-one PGA coaching and TrackMan swing analysis. Kuredu runs a six-hole pitch-and-putt course with its own driving range, a putting green and a Golf Bar overlooking the fairway. Jawakara Islands has laid out a course with a driving range and putting green, with its Hideout Restaurant and Fore Bar both positioned along it, and junior golf worked into its kids' and teens' club programmes.
Where there's no outdoor course, resorts including Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa, Finolhu and Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa keep an indoor simulator instead — a practical stand-in on an island where weather and space rule out anything larger, and still enough to fill an afternoon between beach days.

Can I still play golf at a resort that only has a simulator?
Yes — simulators like the ones at Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa, Finolhu and Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa let you play a round or work on your swing indoors, which is the more common setup given how few Maldives islands have room for a full course. It's a real facility, not a token gesture, just a different experience from playing outdoors.
Is golf coaching available at any Maldives resort?
Velaa Private Island is the standout for this — the Velaa Golf Academy offers one-on-one PGA coaching with TrackMan swing analysis alongside its 9-hole course. Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa's Golf Center also runs a pro shop with coaching built around its simulators.
