A Maldives wedding is a symbolic ceremony with the ocean as witness: a beach wedding for forty, a micro wedding of ten, or an elopement for two, on pavilions the island already knows how to run. We shortlist the resorts that stage it best and carry the logistics end to end.

This page is for couples marrying in the Maldives, a full ceremony with family flown in, or an elopement for two with a couple of witnesses and a photographer. Every resort here has a dedicated wedding pavilion; the differences that matter are guest capacity, transfer logistics for older relatives, and whether the island reads as private or shared.
Some couples want the reception to be the story: an undersea restaurant, a wine-cellar dinner, a private island buyout. Others want the wedding itself kept small and the island doing the rest: house reef, spa, restaurants enough to fill a week without repeating a table. Both are decisions we work through in a consultation, not on this page.
What makes an island right
Guest capacity
Villa count sets the ceiling on how many people can travel together: Conrad Maldives Rangali Island (151 villas) and One&Only Reethi Rah (118 villas) run into the low hundreds, while Huvafen Fushi's 46 villas suit a tighter list.
Transfer complexity for the whole party
A wedding party travelling with older relatives or young children is easier to move through one leg than two: JW Marriott Maldives Kaafu Atoll is 15 minutes from Malé by speedboat, against Ayada Maldives' domestic flight plus a 25–50 minute boat.
Adults-only vs family-inclusive
Hurawalhi Island Resort is adults-only throughout, which matters if flower girls, ring bearers, or young children are part of the day; Conrad, One&Only Reethi Rah, Vakkaru, Ayada, and JW Marriott explicitly welcome families and run kids clubs, while Huvafen Fushi lists neither a kids club nor family villas.
A venue that carries the reception beyond the pavilion
Every candidate has a wedding pavilion for the ceremony itself; what varies is what's on hand for the dinner after: Conrad's Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, Hurawalhi's 5.8 Undersea Restaurant, Vakkaru's 680-label wine cellar, or Huvafen Fushi's underground Vinum cellar.

Scale usually costs you distance
The islands with the most villa capacity for a large guest list, Conrad (151), One&Only Reethi Rah (118), Ayada (124), aren't the shortest transfers; Ayada in particular is a domestic flight plus a 25–50 minute boat, worth weighing against a closer, smaller island.
Small and private caps the guest list
Huvafen Fushi's 46 villas make for an intimate, private-feeling wedding, but that same scale limits how many rooms are available if the guest list grows past close family.
Adults-only narrows who can attend
Hurawalhi's adults-only policy makes for an uncomplicated grown-up reception, but it rules the island out entirely the moment any guests are travelling with children, worth settling before the venue conversation starts.
When to go
December through April is the dry, calmer season, the safer window for outdoor ceremonies and for guests travelling with parents or grandparents who'd rather avoid rough boat crossings, though it's also when demand and rates peak, so a specific wedding date and pavilion slot book out earliest. May to November brings brief afternoon showers but calmer crowds and easier availability for couples who can build flexibility into a ceremony time rather than fix it to the hour.
Which villas work
For the couple, an overwater villa set apart from the pavilion end keeps the days before and after private. For the travelling party, look at each resort's multi-bedroom stock: Conrad's Three-Bedroom Beach Suite with Pool and Two-Bedroom Grand Water Villa, JW Marriott's 2 Bedroom Beach Pool and 2 Bedroom Overwater Pool, or Ayada's Sunset Ocean Family Suite with pool, villas built to keep parents, siblings, or a wedding party within walking distance of each other rather than spread across the island.
Before you book
How far in advance should we book a Maldives wedding?
For the December–April peak season we'd start the island shortlist at least nine to twelve months out: wedding pavilions and the best multi-bedroom villa blocks for a travelling party go first. Outside peak season there's more room to move, but exact date and venue availability is something we confirm resort by resort once we know your guest count and preferred atoll.
Can we have a small Maldives elopement instead of a full wedding?
Yes. Several islands on this list suit a two-person elopement as well as a full guest list. Huvafen Fushi's 46 villas, for instance, are built around a smaller, more private stay rather than a large one. We'll match the scale of the island to the scale of the day once we know whether you're bringing two witnesses or forty guests.
Do Maldives resort weddings count as legally binding?
That depends on nationality and paperwork closely enough that we won't generalise it here. Most couples we work with marry legally at home beforehand and treat the Maldives ceremony as symbolic, which we're glad to talk through properly in a consultation before you commit to a resort or a date.

Do we need to buy out the whole island for a private wedding?
No. Every resort on this list runs a dedicated wedding pavilion for ceremonies alongside its regular guests, so a full buyout isn't required for privacy on the day itself. If exclusivity for the whole trip matters more than the ceremony hour, that's a separate conversation about scale we're glad to have in a consultation.
