Soneva Jani spreads across a lagoon in Noonu Atoll, its overwater villas strung along a distinctive looped jetty and its beach and island villas set back on land. Every villa carries a private pool and a children's sleeping nook, with waterslides standard across most categories. The Den, one of the region's largest kids' clubs, and Soneva Soul, one of the Maldives' largest spas, complete the island.

Recommended For

Multi-generational families

The Den absorbs the children from morning to dusk, multi-bedroom Island Reserve villas give three generations their own doors under one pool, and the built-in children's sleeping room means nobody's on a fold-out bed.

Wellness seekers

One of the largest spa centres in the Maldives, a dedicated Pilates studio, and a Run Club with three marked distances give a wellness-minded stay real structure, not just a single spa afternoon.

Divers and the sea-minded

Noonu Atoll's reefs, dolphin cruises, freediving, watersports and private yacht voyages give guests who measure a stay by time in the water plenty to fill the week.

Before you book

How do we get to Soneva Jani, and how long does it take?

Most guests fly the 40-minute seaplane from Velana International Airport near Malé. If you're arriving on a domestic connection into Maafaru Airport instead, it's a 10-minute speedboat crossing from there. Guests moving between Soneva properties can also connect by seaplane from Soneva Fushi (20 minutes) or Soneva Secret (25 minutes), or by speedboat from Soneva Fushi (90 minutes).

How good is the snorkelling and diving?

Soneva Jani doesn't have a single reef right off the beach the way some islands do — snorkelling and diving here range across Noonu Atoll's reefs, organised through the resort's own Dive Center. Manta sightings are possible roughly June to November, though the resort is clear this is weather- and condition-dependent rather than guaranteed. IMJ checks current conditions with the dive team before each stay.

Is Soneva Jani better suited to families or couples?

Both, deliberately. Villas are built with a separate children's sleeping room as standard, and The Den — one of the largest children's clubs in the Maldives and South Asia — runs from morning to dusk. The same island carries an extensive Soneva Soul spa and a private pool in every villa, which couples travelling without children rely on just as much.

Are meals included, and how many restaurants are there?

Soneva Jani runs several distinct dining venues across the island — from the beachfront Crab Shack and the all-day Chill to the Japanese Director's Cut (which also runs teppanyaki and Irori-grill formats) and cocktails delivered by tuk-tuk at Tipsy. IMJ confirms the specific meal plan and inclusions for your dates directly with the resort at the time of booking.

Which villas have a waterslide, and which have a fitness room?

Every villa category has a waterslide from the deck except the Beach Hideaway, which has a fitness room instead. Full fitness rooms are otherwise reserved for the top-tier three- and four-bedroom Island Reserve and Sunset Water Reserve villas; the one- and two-bedroom water villas skip it. IMJ matches the exact villa number to what your group actually wants in the room.

Do the overwater villas feel safe for young children, with a pool that opens onto the lagoon?

Every villa pool at Soneva Jani has catamaran netting around it, a direct design response to exactly this question. Villas also include a separate children's sleeping room built in alongside the main bedroom, rather than a fold-out bed sharing the same space.
